ORKIDE is needed in Guyana
Last December, the business cluster " ORKIDE Guyana " , gathered for three days of professionals in the mining industry. The objective of this meeting was to exchange views on topics as varied as regional cooperation , new technologies , environment , training or development strategies .
Thus twenty-six experts working in the three Guianas (Guyana , Suriname , Guyana ) , Brazil, Canada, Africa , Belgium, France , Ireland and the United Kingdom , have followed in the auditorium of the chamber of Commerce and Industry of Guyana Region .
The village exhibition , set up in the parking lot of the Esplanade offered to professionals showcase their know-how and innovative products.
A field day came to close the event to the delight of visitors. Greeted at the mining sites of St. Elijah, God-Merci Coralie track and they were able to apprehend one hand geology and gold potential of the area, and also the constant efforts of the profession limit the environmental impact of resource exploitation.
Despite the low participation of elected officials and representatives of the administrations concerned, Horth Gauthier, President of the Guyana ORKIDE cluster, gives a very positive assessment of the 2011 edition: "More than 160 participants attended the conference and participated in discussions. Our neighbors to the Guiana Shield responded positively to the invitation of the association, aware of the interest in this experience sharing.
" Among the highlights of the symposium include the intervention of Georgio Tomi, Professor at the University of Sao Paolo, stressing the need to create a training center dedicated to the sector, which would propose a theoretical learning and practical implementation in within a pilot operating unit associated; or that of David Deliance of Newmont LaSource (leading company in the field of mineral exploration), who presented an innovative drilling system with very low environmental impact.
Recently winner of the call for project of Clusters 2011 DATAR (Interministerial Delegation for Territorial Development and Regional Attractiveness), the interprofessional association ORKIDE Guyana aims to promote synergy between the actors the mining industry. It sets up actions for the development and promotion of the sector by reconciling the economic aspects (new businesses, development of existing structures, provision of innovative tools), and social (professionalisation and reduction of 'environmental impact).
This association has about fifty members and associate members among which we mention the BRGM or IMAC . We wish long life to this young association and present him in this favorable period all our successes vows.
